Christmas With A Twist
I know it is a bit early to be talking about Christmas trees and tinsel but for those who know me well know I had most of my shopping done in January. I have decided to not give those gifts to my grandchildren this year. I am going to buy them books. I will be ordering one book for each child that best suits them. I will spend some time with my 16 grandchildren. I will weigh their likes, their personalities, their beliefs and their desires into hand picking just the right book for each of them.
I have been so fortunate to have met so many great authors and illustrators though social media in the last couple years. They are wonderful people and I have the privilege of calling many of them my friends. They have supported me and encouraged me in my many ways. I want to pay it forward to them by sharing their talent with my family so I will be buying books from them as gifts this year. I have two picked out so far from my author friends. The first chosen book is from Corrina Holyoake, “Animania” and the second one is from Kristen Lamb; “Dani and the Rocking horse Ranch”. What makes these most special is both authors have agreed to hand sign each book for me to give a grandchild. This is just another one of the many reasons I am proud to call them my friends. I can’t wait to find a special book for the rest of the children and with a hopeful prayer I will get them all signed by these amazingly talented people. I will be keeping a close eye on Lorenzo the Bear by Carmela Dutra because my 5 year old daughter loves him. Carmela has been more than kind to us with her books. She sent Jordan her the first book in the Lorenzo series for being a part of her launch party. Carmela signed it and sent many extra tidbits for Jordan to enjoy. We ordered her second book from the Lorenzo series and she signed it along with a wonderful note. Carmela is a one of a kind girl because she didn’t stop there; she stopped by Jordan’s Pre-K class for a Skype visit to read for them twice on the last day of the school year. What an amazing thing for Jordan and her friends to finish up with. I am on a hunt for my next great find and I am heading for Cat Michaels and Lisa Cullen.
I will be watching, reading and sharing their work with my family over the next few months until I have just the right book for each of my children, grandchildren and close friends. I can’t wait for Christmas.
