My Painted Shoes Pale in Comparison
This past week I decided to try a new art craft. I got a few new pairs of white canvas shoes. I purchased a few fabric paints and fabric markers. Having the mind set of an artist, I am always looking to create something new. Most everything I create comes from my Nova Scotia roots. It is a place that inspires me to paint and write. I am so lucky to have been born and raised there. It is rich with history and it is embedded with strong cultural beliefs. It is not only physically beautiful, it is emotionally beautiful also. I miss my home province and its beautiful blue waters. I have cried enough tears to fill my own ocean with the salt of my sole.
The Maritime Province’s are full of creative people that support each other and their talents. I no longer live in Nova Scotia, I live in Saskatchewan. Where I live has had little bearing on the support my homeland gives to me. I belong to several Facebook groups from the Maritimes. This past week has been no exception to how they support each other. I painted a few pairs of shoes and shared photos of them with these groups. I have gotten hundreds of likes, dozens of heart warming compliments and I have several people wanting to purchase shoes from me. A few gift shops have offered space to sell as well. If you are a Maritimer you always will be no matter where life takes you. The miles between us are only as distant as your heart allows you to be. Nova Scotia is in my personality, it is in my art, and it lives in my heart.
Today I would like to show my gratitude to the people from my homeland. Please take a walk in the Maritimes with me. We can walk along shores and look at sea shell. You will see them made into beautiful jewelry. You can find sea glass and driftwood made into art. There are carvings made from trees, buoys painted with whimsical scenes and quilts of many colors. You can listen to Celtic music and wear period costumes. We can climb cliffs and watch giant ocean swells slapping shore line. We can sail the seas on mighty ships and watch whales swim alongside our boats. Villages are painted in bright vibrant colors that reflect the personalities of the people that live there. The best thing about home is the friends you will make. You will never find people like maritimers anywhere else on earth. When you return to your home, you will have a treasure even a pirate would envy. They are wonderful and talented people that have grown from the rich soils that make everything flourish. We are home grow, we are the seeds of the land; a few of us have been spread out by the ocean winds. You can spot a true maritime no matter where we are planted because our roots remain at home. It is a place that is always changing but stays the same. It is truly magical!
Here are a some links to a few of the talented people from home. Please take a few minutes to check these out and comment to show support to them.
Thank You All!
